Association of Black Social Workers Senior Citizens Center is a non profit organization who opened their doors for operation in March, 1975.

Sponsored by the New York City Chapter of the Association of Black Social Workers and presently funded by the Department for the Aging, ABSW. supports Day Cares, After Schools, and Adoption Centers in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Full responsibility for its operations rest with ABSW. Board of Directors which comprises of the present Executive President of the Association Mr. Robert Knox, Chairperson of the Advisory Council Mrs.Geogiana Potter and Mr. Stephen Adeyinka remains Executive Director.

 

 

ABSW. Senior Citizens Center is a multi-purpose program which focuses on the elderly population of sixty years of age and over. The Center is multi-ethnic in composition, with a strength of over five-hundred registered members. The center provides Nutritious Meals, Physical Fitness, International Folk Dance, Telephone Assurance, Civic Forum, Arts & Crafts, Language Laboratory, Organized Trips, Nutrition, Consumer Education, Counseling, Aspects of Primary Health Care, Referral Services, and Inter-generational Activities for the betterment of the elderly's social and physical well-being. Similarly, the center continues to handle problems involving Social Security and SSI. Medicare and Medicaid, Food Stamps, Housing, Reduce Fare Applications, Rent Increase Exemption, Legal Matters and Health.

A dedicated Staff, Volunteers and Board have collectively played a significant role towards the center's success to date.
